Varuthini Ekadashi fasting story:

Lord Shri Krishna started saying, Hey Rajeshwar! This Ekadashi is called Varuthini. It bestows good fortune, destroys all sins, and ultimately grants salvation.

Its story is that in ancient times, a king named Mandhata ruled on the banks of the Narmada. He was extremely charitable and ascetic. One day, when he was doing penance in the forest, a wild bear came from nowhere and started chewing the king’s leg. The king remained engrossed in his penance as before. After some time, the bear dragged the king to the nearby forest while chewing his feet.

The king was very frightened, but by his penance and religion, instead of anger and violence, he prayed to Lord Vishnu and called out to Lord Vishnu with compassion. Hearing his call, Lord Sri Hari Vishnu appeared and killed the bear with his chakra.

The bear had already eaten the king’s leg. The King was very saddened by this. Seeing him sad, Lord Vishnu said, ‘O Vatsa! Don’t mourn. You go to Mathura, observe the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi, and worship my Varaha avatar idol. With its influence, you will become strong again. This bear biting you was a crime of your previous birth.

Following the orders of God, King Mandhata went to Mathura and observed the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi with devotion. Due to its effect, the king soon became beautiful again and had perfect limbs. Due to the influence of this Ekadashi, King Mandhata went to heaven.

Any person who is suffering from fear should remember Lord Vishnu by observing a fast on Varuthini Ekadashi. By observing this fast, all sins are destroyed, and salvation is attained.
