According to the Puranas, Samudra Manthan is a very important event. In search of Amrit, the milky ocean, i.e. Samudra Manthan, took place in Shravan. During the churning, 14 different types of gems came out of the ocean. Thirteen rubies were divided among the Devas and Asuras. But Halahal which was the 14th ruby, was not accepted by anyone because it was the deadliest poison that could destroy the entire universe and every living being. Lord Shiva drank Halahal and kept the poison in his throat. His throat turned blue due to the effect of the poison, and he came to be known as Neelkanth. The effect of the poison was such that Lord Shiva wore a crescent moon on his head and all the Devas started offering water to Lord Shiva from the holy river of Ganga to reduce the effect of the poison. Both these events took place in the month of Shravan and hence offering holy Ganga water to Lord Shiva in this month is considered very auspicious. There is also significance of wearing Rudraksha in the month of Shravan.
Devotees of Lord Shiva consider it auspicious to wear Rudraksha in the month of Shravan. Monday is the favorite day of Lord Shiva. This day is directly related to the worship of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is dedicated to him as the ruling deity of the day. However, the Mondays that fall in the month of Shravan are known as Shravan Monday and are highly auspicious.
