About Shattila Ekadashi:

                When the Krishna Paksha falls on the eleventh day of the month of Magha, it is referred to as Shatila Ekadashi. According to the Hindu calendar, the day of Shatila Ekadashi is considered to be very auspicious. Devotees from all over the world celebrate the Shatila Ekadashi Vrat (Fast) and worship Lord Shri Hari Vishnu on this day in an effort to honor him and win his blessings. A loose translation of the fast’s name is “Papaharni,” which means “something that destroys all sins.” According to popular belief, a person who observes this fast is saved and cleansed of all sins.

🔰Significance Of Shattila Ekadashi:

                    In the Hindu calendar, the month of Magha is a favorite of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu. The day is also very important in Hinduism since it is thought that if one worships Lord Vishnu on this day with good intentions and a good soul, Lord Shri Hari Vishnu would grant all of one’s wishes. It is thought that keeping this fast is equivalent to performing “Kanyadan” virtues, such as giving gold and performing penance for a thousand years, which provides joy and harmony to the individual’s family.

🔰Role of Sesame in Shattila Ekadashi:🔰

             Sesame is known as Tila and therefore this day is known as Shat- Tila Ekadashi. The festival of Shattila Ekadashi is associated with Tila (sesame). Sesame seeds (Tila) is believed to be very sacred and are frequently used for havan and pooja in the Hindu religion. Tila (sesame seeds) can be used in six ways on Shat Tila Ekadashi to ensure a successful ritual. 

  • Take bath with sesame water (Tila water). 
  • Use “ubatan” (paste) of sesame seeds.
  • Use sesame seeds in Pooja.
  • Drink Sesame water.
  • Donate sesame seeds.
  • Make sweets and dishes of sesame seeds.

🍀 Shattila  Ekadashi  Puja Vidhi:🍀
 
  • The rituals of Ekadashi fasting starts from the night of Dashmi (the tenth day of Magha month). It is believed that following these rituals with the utmost faith leads to prosperity and happiness in a person’s life. So let us take a look at the rituals that need to be followed on the day of Shattila Ekadashi. 

  • The devotee should not consume food after the sunset of Dashmi. 

  • According to Narad Puran, on this day, the devotee should wake up early in the morning, take a bath with water that contains sesame seeds after finishing their daily routine activities. 

  • After taking a bath, meditate in the name of Lord Vishnu and take a vow to fast. 

  • Install a picture or an idol of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu in your temple. 

  • Sprinkle water with sesame seeds and Gangajal drops (holy water of river Ganga) on the idol and its surroundings and bathe the idol or picture with Panchamrit, which must include sesame seeds.  

  • After the Ghatasthapana, light a lamp of ghee along with some incense sticks and offer flowers and sweets to the Lord with sesame seeds.  

  • Enchant Vishnu Sahastranama and perform a pooja.  

  • Reciting a Vishnu Aarti in front of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu’s idol in the home’s temple is advised. 

  • Donating sesame seeds is known as one of the most important rituals on this auspicious day, as it is believed that you get to stay in heaven for as many days as the number of sesame seeds one has donated.

मङ्गलम् भगवान विष्णुः, मङ्गलम् गरुडध्वजः। 

मङ्गलम् पुण्डरी काक्षः, मङ्गलाय तनो हरिः॥ 

 

 Mangalam bhagvan  Vishnu, Mangalam Garuddhwaj. 

Mangalam Pundari Kaksha, Mangalay Tano Hari. 

  

  ॐ श्री विष्णवे च विद्महे वासुदेवाय धीमहि। 

Om Shri Vishnave Cha Vidmahe Vasudevay Dhimahi.
