In the Hindu calendar, Papankusha Ekadashi is a day of fasting that occurs on the eleventh day of the Shukla Paksha, or the waxing phase of the moon, in the lunar month of Ashwin. Because of this, Ashwina-Shukla Ekadashi is another name for this ekadashi. September to October is when it is observed according to the Gregorian calendar.
An incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Padmanabha, is the object of devotion to Papankusha Ekadashi. Devotees worship Lord Padmanabha with complete devotion and fervor on this day. The observance of the Papankusha Ekadashi vrat will grant the observer the blessings of Lord Padmanabha and all the world’s pleasures.

The “Brahma Vaivatra Purana” describes the glory of Papankusha Ekadashi, which is seen to be the most auspicious observance for atoning for sins. In Hindu mythology, Sri Krishna was asked by Maharaja Yudhisthira to elucidate the advantages of keeping a fast on this auspicious day. It is said that anyone who fervently keeps the Papankusha Ekadashi vrat and offers prayers to Lord Vishnu would eventually be saved from this world and set free from their sins. Additionally, on the day of Papankusha Ekadashi, anyone, regardless of age, can attain the same virtues as those who visit Hindu pilgrimages and avoid having to encounter Yamraja, the Lord of Death, by reciting the name of Lord Vishnu.
