                   The most essential principles of Jainism are represented on this day. For Jains everywhere, not only in India, today is incredibly auspicious. The Jain community honors Lord Mahavir, their final spiritual guru or teacher, on this day. On the Gregorian calendar, this day occurs in either March or April each year. On the other hand, this day occurs on the thirteenth day of the holy month of Chaitra, according to Hindu Panchang.  


                   The idol of Lord Mahavir is carried in a magnificent parade through the streets on this joyous occasion. The Rath Yatra is the name of this procession. Later in the day, worshippers go to the temples and sing hymns in praise of Lord Mahavir. Through prayer, they ask for blessings for a prosperous and fruitful life. The day is colored with the concept of generosity, encouraging people to give presents and donations to those in need. The purpose of this festival is to spread the idea that being a good citizen means giving back to society.

               The Jainism religion was founded by the esteemed Lord Mahavir. It was thought that he was born in the Bihar region of Kshatriyakund in 588 B.C. This day is dedicated to celebrating his birth because, according to the lunar calendar, he was born on the thirteenth day of the half-moon in the month of Chaitra. He is the 24th Tirthankar’s final. He is the instructor who spreads the core of Jainism’s dharma. The purpose of the celebration is to pay tribute to his enlightenment path and his teachings on austerity and peace for humanity.

🍀Rituals Associated with Mahavir Jayanti:🍀

 

  • The day starts with Snana, the customary bathing of the Lord Mahavir statue in holy water and oils scented with aroma.   
  • The deity receives tilak after the nana.   
  • People work hard to beautify the temples and the Lord Mahavir statue with exquisite garments. Beautiful flowers and garlands adorn the idol of the deity.   
  • Next, a mixture of Chandan and Haldi is applied to Lord Mahavir’s idol.   
  • On this day, people present the deity with bhog, or delectable food produced that day.  
  • Offerings of rice, sugar, fruits, and dry fruits are made following an Abhishek using milk and holy water.   
  • To obtain Lord Mahavir’s grace, some devotees fast on this auspicious day.  
  • People discuss in-depth the teachings of Mahavir when they visit the temples with their loved ones.   
  • On this day, people also go to the shrines dedicated to Teerthankar.  
  • They offer prayers, or bhajans, in praise of the statue of Lord Mahavir.

  • The Jains observe fasts and offer prayers all day long to commemorate this important holiday.   
  • On this auspicious day, devotees pray in Jain temples across the nation and the rest of the world.  
  • After the prayers, there is frequently some time for reflection.  
  • On this day, devotees spend the day contemplating the lessons imparted by Lord Mahavir.   
  • His lectures were replete with lessons on humility, love and compassion, renunciation, virtue, restraint, and modesty. Today, people reflect on his teachings.

                     Today, the modern form of Jainism emphasizes austerity as a virtue and leads an austere lifestyle. In their religion, Lord Mahavir is the supreme prophet, and they honor and venerate him.
