Maa Kushmanda, the fourth incarnation of Goddess Durga. The name “Kushmanda” originates from Sanskrit, with “Ku” translating to “a little,” “Ushma” to “warmth,” and “Anda” to “cosmic egg.” She has eight to ten hands holding a trident, discus, sword, hook, mace, bow, arrow and two jars of Amrut (Elixir) and blood. Her one hand is always on the Abhayamudra, from which she blesses all her devotees.

Goddess Parvati began residing in the center of the solar system to supply energy to the universe after taking on the form of Goddess Siddhidatri. The Goddess has been referred to as Kushmanda ever since. The Goddess who is able to live inside the Sun is called Kushmanda. Goddess Mata’s body is just as dazzling and radiant as the sun itself.
Navaratri Puja: Goddess Kushmanda is worshipped on the fourth day of Navratri.
Ruled Planets: According to beliefs, Goddess Kushmanda provides direction and energy to the Sun planet. Hence, Lord Sun is ruled by Goddess Kushmanda.
Description of the form: Goddess Siddhidatri rides on a lion. The Goddess is depicted as an eight-armed form. Her right hands hold a kamandalu, bow, arrow and lotus and her left hands hold Amrit Kalash, Japa Mala, mace and Chakra respectively.
Description: Goddess Kushmanda has eight arms; hence she is also known as Ashtabhuja Devi. Devotees believe that all the power to bestow siddhis and treasures is present in the jaap mala of Devi Maa.
It is described that Devi Maa created the entire world with her sweet smile, which is called Brahmanda in Sanskrit. Devi Maa is very fond of the sacrifice of white pumpkin, which is known as Kushmanda. Being related to the universe and Kushmanda, this form of the Goddess is popular as Devi Kushmanda.

At the time of worship, one should offer halwa, sweet curd or malpua as prasad to Mother Kushmanda and this offering should be consumed by oneself as well as donated to Brahmins.

Mother Kushmanda loves red colour, hence one can offer red coloured flowers like hibiscus, red rose etc. to her during worship; this pleases the Goddess.

The Sanatan texts tell of the Tridevs’ prehistoric conception of the universe’s creation. Everything in the universe was completely dark at that moment. There was quiet, no sound, and no music. Jagat Janani Adishakti Maa Durga provided assistance to the Tridevs.
With a gentle smile, Maa Kushmanda, the fourth manifestation of Maa Durga, quickly created the universe. The universe was lit by the light streaming from her face. She goes by Maa Kushmanda for this reason.
The mother calls Surya Lok home. The scriptures claim that the Sun is illuminated by the light that flows from Maa Kushmanda’s face. She can live anywhere, including outside Surya Lok.
A bright aura appears on the face of the mother, which does good to the entire world. Her radiance is as luminous as the Sun, and only Jagat Janani Adishakti Maa Kushmanda can hold it.
