🔸Shani Jayanti Katha🔸

According to the story of Skandapurana, Surya was married to the daughter of King Daksha. The noun was disturbed by the brilliance of Surya God. Sanjha and Surya God had three children named Vaivaswat Manu, Yamuna, and Yamaraj. For some time, the noun tried to have a relationship with the sun, but the noun could not bear the sun’s brightness for long. The noun is a remedy to reduce the brightness of the sun god. The sun god did not care about this, so before he left, for the upbringing of children and the service of his husband, he created his lookalike Samvarna from Tapobal, which is known as the shadow.

1.🔸Birth of Shani, son of Sun God and Shadow 🔸

Handing over the family responsibilities to Chhaya, Sangya went to her father Daksh’s house, but her father did not support her work and asked her to go back to Suryalok. Sangya did not agree and started doing penance by becoming a mare in the forest. Whereas, due to being in the form of a shadow, Savarna did not face any problems from the glory of the Sun God, and after some time, Shani Dev Bhadra was born from the union of the shadow and the Sun God. From the time of birth, Shani Dev had a dark complexion, a tall body, big eyes, and long hair.

2.🔸Due to this, there was enmity between Shani Dev and Surya🔸

According to Brahmapuran, due to being the son of Shadow, Shani Dev’s complexion was black, due to which Surya Dev refused to accept him as his son. At the same time, the Sun God also doubted the shadow. He accused Chhaya that Shani Dev could not be his son. Hearing such harsh words from Sun God, Shani Dev became angry and started looking towards Father Sun God. Due to his power, the Sun God turned black. Later, when Surya Dev realized his mistake, he again returned to his original form. After this incident, the relationship between Shani and Surya Dev turned sour. They are considered enemies of each other.

🔸Stories and legends associated with Shani Dev 🔸

Shani Jayanti is intertwined with several captivating stories and legends that highlight Lord Shani’s influence and significance. Let’s explore a couple of these tales:

1.🔸The Story of Shani Dev and Lord Hanuman🔸

According to the scriptures, Hanuman ji applied mustard oil to the wounds of Shani Dev; hence, the blessings of Shani Dev are bestowed on those who apply the oil. It is said about Shani Dev that he does not trouble the devotees of Hanuman Ji. That is why, to avoid the retrograde vision of Saturn, it is advised to worship Ram devotee Hanuman Ji. According to the popular story in this regard, Shani Dev became immensely proud of his power. He started feeling that there was no one more powerful than him in this world, and just by his crooked vision, turmoil began in human life.

In this ecstasy, Shanidev reached a place where Hanuman ji was engrossed in the meditation of his Lord Shri Ram. Seeing him, Shanidev cast his evil eye on him, but there was no effect on Hanuman Ji, who was engrossed in the meditation. Angered by this, Shani Dev challenged him and said, O monkey, look who has come in front of you?

Hanuman Ji did not pay any attention to that and remained engrossed in meditation. Shanidev made many efforts, but Hanuman Ji, engrossed in meditation, did not get distracted. Due to this, the anger of Shani Dev reached the seventh heaven. In anger, Shanidev tried once again and said, O monkey, open your eyes; Shanidev has come to destroy your happiness and peace. No creature in this world can face me.

Shanidev believed that Hanuman Ji would get scared and ask for forgiveness, but nothing like this happened. After a long time, Hanuman ji asked him very casually, Maharaj, who are you? Hearing this, Shani Dev’s anger increased even more, and he said, I am going to enter your zodiac sign; only then will you know who I am.” Hanuman Ji said, You go somewhere else; do not interrupt my Lord Simran.

Shanidev did not like this, and he started pulling the arm of Hanuman Ji, who was going to meditate, and pulling him towards himself. Hanuman Ji felt as if someone had placed his arm on burning embers. He released his arm with a jerk, and when Shanidev assumed a monstrous form and tried to catch hold of his other arm, Hanuman Ji also got angry.

He wrapped Shani Dev in his tail. Shanidev’s anger did not subside even then. Shanidev said, Can’t even your Lord Ram do any harm to me? On this, Hanuman Ji started rubbing Shanidev wrapped in his tail by hitting him hard on the mountains and trees, and the condition of Shanidev worsened.

Then Shanidev sought help from the gods, but no god came to help him. Then Shani Dev realized his mistake and said, Monkey King, have mercy; I have got the consequences of my arrogance and ego; please forgive me. I will stay away from your shadow in the future. Then Hanuman Ji said, You will have to stay away not only from my shadow but also from the shadow of my devotees. Shanidev gave this promise to Hanuman Ji.

After Hanuman ji hit Shani Dev with the mountains and trees, he got a lot of injuries, due to which Shani Dev was upset. Then Hanuman ji applied mustard oil to the wounds of Shani Dev, which ended his pain. Then Shanidev said that whoever with a true heart offers oil to me on Saturday or lights a mustard oil lamp under the peepal tree will be freed from all the troubles related to Shani.

According to mythology, when Ravana’s ego was in the seventh sky, he captured all the planets with his power. Ravana’s anger broke out on Shani Dev also, and he took Shani Dev hostage. At this time, Hanuman Ji had gone to Lanka as the messenger of Lord Ram. Ravana got angry and ordered Hanumanji to set fire to Hanumanji’s tail. In return, Hanuman Ji burned Lanka to ashes. As soon as Ravana’s Lanka was set on fire, all the planets were freed, but due to hanging upside down, Shani Dev was experiencing severe pain in his body and was groaning in pain.

5.🔸Shri Shanidev Ji, the Best Krishna Devotee🔸

Shri Shanidev Ji is present near Kokila Forest. Your philosophy is devotional. According to the Brahmavaivarta Purana, Shri Shanidev Ji is always engrossed in the contemplation of Shri Krishna. It was your rule to never glance at anyone else.

Bhagwati Jagadamba gave birth to a son, Shri Ganesha. On this occasion, the big gods came to congratulate them. Shri Shanidev Ji had also come there. So the mother asked Shri Shanidev ji, Shri Shanidev ji, Ever since you came, you have stood with your face down. Why are you not congratulating my son? Shri Shanidev Ji said, Mother, my vision is inauspicious.

Parvati ji asked why you said this, and Shri Shanidev ji replied, Mother, I have been worshiping Lord Krishna since childhood. Apart from Shri Krishna, he did not even look at anyone and did not want to talk to anyone. Was completely detached from the world. But my father married me to a suitable daughter of Chitrarath, and every wife desires to have intercourse with her husband. Seeing that I did not agree at all to this, he cursed me that you do not look at me; hence, whoever else you look at will be destroyed instantly. After that, Parvati ji started laughing after listening to Shri Shanidev ji and said, Whatever happens, you will have to look after my son. Whatever happens, follow my orders.

As soon as Shri Shanidev Ji cast his glance, the child’s head automatically flew away and went to Goloka. The torso of his son was lying drenched in blood in Jagdamba’s lap. Then Shri Hari brought the head of a Gajraj and attached it to the torso, and the child became alive again. And the same child became revered among all the gods. Parvati ji cursed Shri Shanidev ji that he should go and become handicapped, but Shri Shanidev ji remained standing in the same happy state. This is the identity of a devotee of Shri Krishna; he remains happy in every situation. Live. It has been said so. There is no better devotee of Shri Krishna than Shri Shanidev ji. You are revered in Braj because you are a devotee of Shri Krishna. Today, the mental condition of people has changed a bit. They see you as a planet and are not familiar with your real form of devotion to Shri Krishna.
