🚩Maa Katyayani 🚩

About Maa Katyayani

Known as Mahishasurmardini due to her conquest over the demon king Mahishasura, Maa Katyayani is a formidable manifestation of the goddess Durga. The Abhaya and Varada mudras, which stand for protection and blessings, are held by her right hand as she rides a lion and carries a sword and lotus in her left pocket. Believed to be the conqueror of bad forces, Katyayani is revered. Inspired by the horrors committed by Mahishasura, the gods gathered their accumulated energy to form Maa Katyayani, according to the Vamana Purana. This immense energy took on the terrible form of the goddess Katyayana Rishi in her hermitage. She goes by Katyayani, a nickname that denotes her affinity with the wise Katyayana, for this reason.

🍁  Maa Katyayani Vrat Katha
 🍁

The mythological tale states that in order to conceive, Maharishi Katyayan once underwent a severe penance of Maa Bhagwati. Maa Bhagwati appeared before Maharishi Katyayan, satisfied with his strict penance. In front of the mother, Sage Katyayan expressed his wish, and Maa Bhagwati assured him that she would be born into his family as his daughter. Once upon a time, Mahishasur the demon was committing more and more atrocities throughout the three planets. This infuriated the gods and goddesses.

Then, from the wisdom of the Tridev—Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, or Lord Shiva—who was born into the Maharishi Katyayan family, the Goddess was conceived. She was given the name Katyayani because she was born into Maharishi Katyayan’s household. Sage Katyayana performed ritualistic devotion of Maa Katyayani on Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami Tithi after becoming a daughter of Mata Rani’s household. Following this, Mahishasura was slain by Maa Katyayani on Dashami, freeing the three realms from his horrors.
