💐 Vijaya Ekadashi Vrat Katha 💐

Arjuna was feeling immense joy in listening to the significance of Ekadashis. After getting the joy of listening to the story of Jaya Ekadashi, Arjuna said, “O Pundarikaksha! What is the name of the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of the Falgun month, and what is the rule of its fast? Please tell me about it in detail.”

Shri Krishna said, “O Arjuna! The name of the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of the Falgun month is Vijaya. Because of its fast, a person gets victory. By listening to and reading the significance of this Vijaya Ekadashi, all sins come to an end.”

Once Devrishi Narad said to Jagatpita Brahmaji, “O Brahmaji! Please tell me about the fast of Vijaya Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of the Falgun month and its method.”

Hearing Narad’s words, Brahma said, “O son! The fast of Vijaya Ekadashi destroys the sins of the past as well as the present. I have not told anyone about this Ekadashi till date, but I am telling you, this Ekadashi named Vijaya gives victory to all the people who fast.”

Now listen to the story with devotion: when Shri Ram was given fourteen years of exile, he started living in Panchvati with his brother Lakshman and wife Sita. At that time, the great sinner Ravana kidnapped Mother Sita.

This tragic incident made Shri Ram and Lakshman very sad, and they started wandering from forest to forest in search of Sita. While wandering in the forest, they reached the dying Jatayu. Jatayu told him the entire story of the abduction of Mother Sita and left for heaven after giving up his life in the lap of Lord Shri Ram. A little later, Shri Ram and Lakshman became friends with Sugriva, and there they killed Bali.

Shri Ram’s devotee Hanuman Ji went to Lanka and found out about Mother Sita and told her about the friendship between Shri Ram and Maharaj Sugriv. Returning from there, Hanuman Ji came to Shri Ramchandra Ji and told him the entire story of his meeting with Mother Sita in Ashok Vatika.

After knowing everything, Shri Ramchandra Ji, with the consent of Sugriv, left for Lanka with the army of monkeys and bears. On reaching the seashore, Shri Ram Ji saw the vast sea filled with crocodiles and said to Lakshman Ji, “O Lakshman! How will we cross this vast sea filled with many crocodiles and creatures?”

On hearing Lord Shri Ram’s words, Lakshman Ji said, “Brother! You are Purna Purushottam Adipurush. Nothing is invisible to you. Half a yojana away from here, in Kumari Island, there is the ashram of Vakdalbhya Muni. He is the knower of Brahmas with many names. Only he can tell you the ways to victory.”

Listening to the words of his younger brother Lakshmanji, Shri Ramji went to the ashram of sage Vakdalbhya, and after paying his respects to him, sat on one side.

Seeing Shri Ram coming to his ashram, Maharishi Vakdalbhya asked, “O Shri Ram! For what purpose have you sanctified my hut? Please tell me your purpose, Lord!”

Listening to the sweet words of the sage, Shri Ramji said, “O Rishivar! I have come here with the army and am going to Lanka with the desire to defeat the demon king Ravana. Please tell me a way to cross the ocean. This is my only purpose of coming to you.”

Maharshi Vakdalbhya said, “O Ram! I will tell you a very good fact. By doing which you will definitely get victory.”

“What kind of fast is this, great sage! By doing which one gets victory in all the fields?” Shri Ram asked curiously. On this Maharishi Vakdalbhya said, “O Shri Ram! By fasting on Vijaya Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of the Falgun month, you will definitely cross the ocean, and you will also be victorious in the war. O Maryada Purushottam! For this fast, make a pot of gold, silver, copper, or clay on the day of Dashami. Fill that pot with water and place Panch Pallava on it and place it on the altar. Place Satanja, i.e., seven grains mixed together, under that pot and barley on top. Place a golden idol of Lord Vishnu on it. On the day of Ekadashi, after taking a bath, worship Lord Shri Hari with incense, a lamp, offerings, a coconut, etc. Spend the whole day in front of the pot with devotion, sit in the same way, and stay awake at night. On the day of Dwadashi, after taking a bath, etc., give that pot to a Brahmin on the banks of a river or pond. O Dasharathanandan! If you observe this fast with the generals, then definitely you will be victorious. Hearing the sage’s words, Shri Ramchandraji observed the Vijaya Ekadashi fast according to the rules and regulations and won over the demons with its effect.

“O Arjun! The person who completes this fast according to the rules and regulations will be victorious in both worlds. Shri Brahmaji had told Naradji, The one who listens to or reads the significance of this fast gets the fruits of the Vajpayee Yagya.”
