šŸ’Dev Uthani Ekadashi Vrat KathašŸ’ Ā

Ā Ā Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  A kingdom once existed where Ekadashi was a day when everyone fasted. On that day, no oneā€”not even subjects, slaves, or animalsā€”would eat food. Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  A person from a different kingdom once arrived in our state in search of employment. On the condition that he not eat anything on the day of Ekadashi, King prepared to provide him a job. He accepted and got to work. When Ekadashi arrived, he was fed fruits. However, he begged the king that fruits would not be enough to satisfy his hunger. In order to avoid starvation and death, he begged the king to grant him some grains. Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā He begged the king to set aside flour, dal, and vegetables for him, but the king reminded him that he had agreed not to eat grains on Ekadashi. As usual, he walked to the river after gathering the materials, took a wash, and then made the supper. Once the dinner was ready, he invited Bhagwan to join him for a meal. Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  When he called, Chaturbhuj Shri Vishnu, dressed in yellow, arrived and prepared the meal. After completing the meals, Shri Vishnu disappeared and returned to his duties. Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  He was still hungry on the previous Ekadashi, so fifteen days later, on the following Ekadashi, he returned to the monarch and requested that the grain supplies be doubled. The Maharaja inquired as to why. On asking, he replied that Bhagwan came and ate along with him. Thatā€™s why the supplies are not enough for me. Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā The king was astonished after hearing his response. The monarch declared, “I can’t trust you.” Even though I worship Lord Vishnu and observe fasts, He has never appeared in front of me.Ā Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā “Maharaj!” he remarked to the monarch upon hearing this. Why don’t you come and see for yourself if you don’t think I’m telling the truth? Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Both of them visited the riverbank on the day of Ekadashi. While the King was hiding behind the tree, the servant started preparing the food and pleading with the Lord to come eat it. However, despite numerous calls, Sri Hari did not show up. Even though the evening was coming to an end, Lord did not flaunt himself. Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  The individual said, “I will give up my life by jumping into the river,” after losing all hope after waiting for so long. He decided to take his own life after failing to see the Lord. When Lord Vishnu saw his great will, he came to him and ate with him just as he was ready to jump into the river. Following his consumption of the food, Lord Vishnu flew him to his residence.Ā Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  After witnessing this incredible Leela, King came to the realization that one cannot see the Lord by only fasting; one must observe fast completely and fervently in order for it to occur. The king then began a pure-minded fast and at last reached paradise.Ā Ā
