The new moon falling in the holy month of Sawan is known as Hariyali Amavasya. On this day, special darshan is organized in various temples of North India, especially in Mathura and Vrindavan. Thousands of Krishna devotees come to Banke Bihari temple in Mathura, Dwarkadhish and Vrindavan for special darshan of Lord Krishna. The flower bangla of Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan is world famous among Krishna devotees. Apart from Krishna temples, special Shiva darshan is also arranged in various Shiva temples on the day of Hariyali Amavasya.

According to Vedic astrology, no auspicious work should be done on the night of Hariyali Amavasya. The luminous planet Moon is not visible in the sky during the night of Hariyali Amavasya 2024.
It is also believed that evil spirits are strongest on this day, so black magic is also practiced on this day. People worship Lord Shiva and Kali to stay safe from evil spirits. Some people also observe fasting on this day. Rudrabhishek is of great importance to avoid evil spirits and negativity.

- On the day of Halharini Amavasya, wake up early in the morning and take a bath in a holy river or pilgrimage in the Brahma Muhurta.
- Offer water to Lord Surya at the time of sunrise.
- After waking up in the morning, worship Goddess Parvati and Lord Shankar with full rituals and married women should worship Goddess Parvati with vermilion and distribute Suhaag material.
- Perform Pitra Tarpan on this day. Keep a fast for the peace of the souls of your ancestors.
- Make balls of flour and feed them to fish or other animals in a pond or river.
- Feed Brahmins and give Dakshina or Sidha.
- Fast on Shravan Amavasya.
- On this day, definitely plant Peepal, Banyan, Banana, Lemon or Tulsi.
- Feed sugar or dry flour to ants near your house.
- Give donations to the poor or needy.
- On the day of Shravan Amavasya, it is customary to worship the Peepal tree.
- Distributing green bangles, vermilion, and bindi prolongs the life of the married couple and also brings prosperity to the house.
- For good luck, boys can also gift bangles, sweets etc. to married women. But this work should be done before noon.
- On the day of Hariyali Amavasya, Peepal and Tulsi trees should be worshipped.
- On this day, Peepal tree is worshipped, and rounds are taken around it and there is a tradition of making Malpua as a prasad and offering it.
