🚩🚩 Devshayani Ekadashi Vrat Katha: 🚩🚩

Arjun exclaimed, “Oh Krishna, Lord! What is the Shukla Paksha of Ashad month’s Ekadashi fast? On that day, whose deity is worshipped? What is its regulation? Please explain everything to me in detail.” “O archer!” declared Lord Krishna. Brahmaji had once been asked the identical question by Naradji. Then Narad, Brahmaji stated that! The Ekadashi fast is the best fast among all fasts, so you have posed the best question for the salvation of all living things in Kaliyug. Fasting on this day destroys all sins. This ekadashi is called Devshayani ekadashi. Lord Vishnu is happy that you are keeping this fast. I’ll tell you about a mythical tale in this regard; pay close attention. Mandhata was the name of a Suryavanshi monarch. He was a Chakravarti, a renowned ascetic, and truthful. He used to look after his subjects, his kids. All his subjects lived contentedly and were rich in grains. His kingdom never experienced starvation. Though there was never a natural disaster, God nonetheless got upset with him. God only knows what error the king committed, since when there was a serious famine in his realm, the lack of food grains made the subjects very unhappy. The kingdom discontinued doing yagyas. experiencing starvation One day, the subjects went to the king in sorrow and began to pray, saying, “O King, rain is the primary element that led to the creation of the entire world.” The kingdom is experiencing a famine due to the lack of rain, and people are losing their lives. Oh Monarch! If you lessened our pain, it would be beneficial. “The people will be forced to take refuge in another kingdom if we do not receive relief from the famine soon.”

“You people are telling the truth.” The king remarked after listening to the subjects. You folks are depressed because it hasn’t rained. The king’s sins force the people to suffer. Even after giving it a lot of thought, I am still unable to identify any shortcomings. I’m doing all in my power to alleviate your pain, but don’t worry—I’ll figure something out.

The subjects departed after hearing the king’s speech. After worshiping the gods, King Mandhata took certain privileged people with him into the jungle. He eventually made his way to the ashram of Angira Rishi, the son of Brahma, after wandering through the ashrams of sages and Munis. Stepping out of the chariot, the monarch made his way to the ashram. The king there reached out and bowed to the sage, who had just done his daily tasks. After blessing the king, the wise man questioned, “O King! Please tell me why you came to this location.

Saying “O Maharshi!” to the king for the past three years, my kingdom has not seen any rain. People are suffering from famine. The scriptures state that the king’s misdeeds have caused the people to suffer. If this is my rule based on the Dharma, how did this hunger arise? It is only now that I have been able to learn. I’ve come to you now to get this doubt cleared up. Please find a solution to this issue for me and let me know how to end my people’s suffering.

The sage listened to the whole tale and then said, “O King!” All four levels of religion are covered in this Satyug. Of all the eras, this one is the best. While a Shudra is performing penance in your country, only Brahmins have the authority to read the Vedas and perform penance today. There is no rain in your realm because of this fault. Get the Shudra murdered as quickly as possible if you care about the wellbeing of the populace. Famine will always be a part of your kingdom unless you complete this task.

The monarch exclaimed, “O great sage!” after hearing the sage’s comments. Shudra is an innocent penance, and I cannot kill him. My soul will never condone the killing of an innocent person; it is against my rules. Could you please suggest another way to eliminate this error?

Aware that the king was unsettled, the wise man exclaimed, “O King!” If you desire this, then follow the required Devshayani Ekadashi fast during Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashad. Your realm will have rain because of this fast, and people will once again experience happiness because this Ekadashi fast grants siddhis and releases people from hardships.

After hearing the sage’s remarks, the king went back to his city and kept the Devshayani Ekadashi fast as instructed. The people were released from starvation, and the kingdom had good rains because of this fast.

Padma Ekadashi is another name for this Ekadashi. Since keeping this fast pleases Lord Vishnu, those who seek salvation ought to keep this Ekadashi fast. This Ekadashi fast also marked the beginning of the Chaturmasya fast.
